| Mrs. Betty Carol Riley Fourth Grade Teacher Mrs. Riley was born in Bardstown, Kentucky. She has been a teacher for 33 years, the last 5 at St. Joseph School. She attended St. Joseph School, Bethlehem High School, earned a bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master's Degree and Rank 1 from University of Louisville. Family Information: Husband Jerry (deceased), daughter Tiffany (lives in Lexington with husband Brian), son Thad (lives in Louisville with wife Erin), and son Matt (lives in Bardstown with wife Anna and grandchild, Nora Kate). Interests/hobbies: Traveling, reading, baking, spending time with family, including my parents as well as my in-laws, whom I'm blessed to still have with me, and especially spending time with my children and my 2 year old granddaughter. Favorite sport: I love watching college sports, especially football and basketball Favorite animals: Someone else's pet Favorite color: Leaning toward green these days Favorite flower: Carnation Favorite TV show: Monk: the quirky behavior of the lead character is played so well. I also enjoy ER, and any Masterpiece Theatre shows on KET. Strangest job: I was always babysitting, and I remember sitting for a very weird family--one child ate raw hamburger, and another child would snack on dog food. Wonder how those kids turned out....Favorite trip: Several come to mind. Once my husband and I purchased a full-sized van. We decided every other year would be a beach vacation, and in-between we took our children to St. Louis, Chicago, as well as New Orleans. I sat in the back of the van making peanut butter sandwiches and dispensing drinks out of coolers so we could save money on meals. What you like to do on a snow day: Providing the power is still on, I like to build a fire in my fireplace, and just sit and watch it come down. Someone who was a positive influence: My husband, who was the most committed human being I was ever privileged to spend almost 40 years of my life with. He was such a good role model for our children, and taught me by his actions about having the courage to stay with my convictions. What you like best about teaching: I love watching the light come on in their eyes as they "get it" and then their excitement as they take the concept even further. Favorite quote: "O Lord, please let me be a Blessing to someone today." Fr. Tim, the central character from the Mitford series of books by Jan Karon |
