Mrs. Hortensia Mayer

Spanish Teacher

Mrs. Mayer was born in El Salvador, Central America. Family Information: I have been married for 35 years to a wonderful person; his name is Charles Mayer. I have three children, two boys and a girl and three grandchildren. Education: For high school I went to a public school, then I went to a Catholic school where I graduated with a degree as an office assistant (secretary). After working with the Klamath School District for 8 years, I decided to return to school as a student. I went to Oregon Institute of Technology where I graduated with a degree in Applied Psychology. In 2004, I moved to Honduras as a Peace Corps volunteer where I worked for two years teaching the children in that country how to take care of and prevent HIV. I have been teaching for 16 years, 2 at St. Joseph School. Interests/hobbies: I love to cook and read books. Favorite activity: Hiking is my favorite activity. Favorite animal: Cats. Favorite color: Blue and red. Favorite TV show: Masterpiece Theater What you like to do on a snow day: Relax with a good book and a hot cup of tea. Facts about you: I did not know English when I came to this country. Favorite trip/vacation: My trip to Panama. Seeing the Panama Canal, and walking on the footsteps of the Conquistadores. Another of my favorite trips is the one we took in Oregon along the Pacific Coast. Favorite childhood memory: Climbing our mango tree so I could get the mangos that were at the top of the tree. Someone who was a positive influence: My uncle; he was a self-made man. What you like best about teaching: The children; especially the little ones.
