Mrs. Judy Walsh

Pre-school Director

I am married to Dick Walsh and we will celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary on August 14th. We have five children and twelve grandchildren who range in age from fifteen to six. We celebrate birthdays every month of the year!

I was born in Louisville where I attended duPont Manual High School. I graduated from Western Kentucky University and received a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Spalding University.

My teaching career began in 1987 after a short career as a social worker and much longer career as a homemaker. I taught fourth grade for twelve years and was assistant principal for nine years. All of my years in education have been at St. Joseph School. I hold Rank II teaching certification and advanced catechist certification with additional hours toward a master certification. Many of the catechist hours were earned attending deaconate training classes with Dick.

My hobbies are reading, movies, and traveling. I was never drawn to sports as a child, preferring to read while others were outside playing ball. I am, however, a great spectator and attend many Reds and Bats baseball games. The best games to watch, of course, are those in which one of my grandchildren is playing.

My youngest son is in the military and until recently was stationed in Italy. We were privileged to visit there several times and those trips to Italy have been my favorites by far! This summer my entire family rented a house in Gatlinburg and it was a wonderful few days together.

The best part about teaching has always been the children who are entrusted to you each year. They challenged me as a person to value their individuality and as a teacher to meet the needs of their different abilities. The teachers at St. Joseph have been friends as well as colleagues. When I retired two years ago, I realized how much I missed those interactions and being around children each day. I am very excited to be back as part of St. Joseph School in my new job--although I enjoy the balance of working part time and having time for other interests.

It is very difficult to choose one person who was a positive influence when so many people have left an impression upon my life. The legacy from my parents was a strong sense of spirituality and love of family that I hope I have passed on to my children. I don't have a favorite quote, but the philosophy that has guided my life came from one of my father's poems: Three things I know that make it possible to live and to enjoy life in it fullest, richest measure. Faith--Friends--Family The first I pray for constantly; the second I give thanks for daily; the third is my richest earthly treasure.
