Sister Lorena Fleischmann Resource Teacher Place of birth: I was born at my grandparents' farm, in the room that was the original log cabin for the home, in Utica, KY. Family information: I am the 7th of 10 children. Dad is the oldest of 12, and Mom is the oldest of 9, so I have many cousins. Education: I attended grade school at St. Anthonys, Browns Valley, and graduated from Catholic High in Owensboro, KY. I have a B.S. in Elementary Education from Spalding University in Louisville, and a Masters in Religious Education from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX. I've attended numerous workshops and additional classes over the years. I have taught in 7 Catholic schools for 31 years; been pastoral associate in three Catholic parishes for 7 years, during which time I taught religion to people with Down Syndrome for 10 years. For 2 years I taught vision therapy to children and adults. I have been teaching at St. Joseph for 7 years. I have served on numerous boards and committees. I just finished a six-year term on Nazareth Village Board. I am presently on the SCN Ministry Fund Committee and the Planning Committee for our next SCN assembly. I've worked with "Special Friends," a program for the handicapped similar to Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Certification: I have a life teaching certificate for Kentucky; I had a teaching certificate for Tennessee. I am a certified vision Therapist, having received training in Appleton, Wisconsin. I've also been trained in SPRED (special religious education). Besides my MRE and training in SPRED, I have a Master Catechist Certificate from the Diocese of Owensboro, KY. Interests: Reading; canning fresh vegetables. Favorite activity: I prefer the Arts, especially theatre and poetry. Favorite Animal: Koala, cardinal. Favorite colors: Purple and red Favorite TV show: Ghost Whisperer. Favorite trip: A three-week tour of Europe, during which I saw the Passion Play in Oberamergau. It was all in German and lasted all day. What I like to do on a snow day: Read a good book. Favorite childhood memory: Coming home from school and having Mom meet us at the door, and then taking ice water to Dad who was working on the farm. Facts about you: I have a special sister with Down Syndrome (she's now in heaven). I have 22 nieces and nephews, 30 great nieces and nephews, and 22 great-great nieces and nephews. I did my student teaching here at St. Joseph in the 8th grade in 1965. Who graduated from 8th grade that year? What I like best about teaching: Starting over each year with a new group of students, and helping them grow and learn. Positive influence: My parents. They were always there to help and guide me.
