Mrs. Valerie N. Brooks

Middle School Science Teacher

Mrs. Brooks was born in Clayton Co., Georgia. She has been a teacher for 3 years, all at St. Joseph School. She attended high school at Pleasure Ridge Park. She has a B.A. in Biology with a concentration in Cellular and Molecular Biology from U. of L. and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Bellarmine and a Rank II. Family Information: I have been married to my wonderful husband, Ronnie, for 6 years. I have two beautiful daughters, Avery (5) and Hadley (4 months). Interests/hobbies: I like to read when possible. HA! HA!). Favorite sport/activity: Is shopping a sport? If so, I am really good at that! Favorite animals: Elephants Favorite color: Brown and black Favorite TV shows: Jon & Kate Plus 8, Whale Wars (Animal Planet). Strangest job: When I was 14, I worked at a seafood restaurant breading hushpuppies and fish. Yuck! Favorite trip: DISNEYWORLD! What you like to do on a snow day: Play with my daughters. Favorite childhood memory: Going to the beach with my father and spending the weekends with my grandparents in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Facts about you: I have been learning about my family history. My grandfather is a full-blooded Cherokee Indian, while my maternal great-grandparents were part Cherokee as well. In the past, I have learned about my ancestors walking the Trail of Tears. The removal of Native Americans from their territories and how some live now is a story that sometimes saddens me. What you like best about teaching: Every day is new and you never know what to expect. Favorite Quote: "Train a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22: 6
