SCRIP PROGRAM
A Little History: Before we started using scrip (gift certificates/gift cards) as our main fundraiser, we had all the usual fundraisers. Our children or we sold everything from chocolate to Avon in order to raise much-needed funds. In and effort to find a way to offset the rising frustration of parents at having to constantly sell things and the children having to go "door to door", other ways of fundraising were explored. In the spring of 2000, it was decided by all the school families that starting with the 2000-2001 school year we would eliminate all "selling" fundraisers and adopt the scrip program as our main fundraiser. The first two years we carried only grocery certificates. In 2003 we expanded our scrip program to include many of the most popular restaurants, service, and retail merchants. Although we still have some community - based fundraisers (fall festival, fish fry, pancake breakfast), the scrip program has taken the place of any marketing fundraisers that required our children to sell things to family, friends, and neighbors. It's easy, doesn't cost you a thing, and it has enormous profit potential. Here's how it works:
Scrip: Scrip is just another name for gift cards/certificates. We have a wonderful list of retailers to choose from. They have the same cash value at the store as you pay for them. It doesn't cost you anything to use them. Our profit comes from the participating store selling the certificate to us at a discounted price. The percent of profit varies with each retailer and is listed on the order form. Kroger is the only card we have that you can recharge at the store and the school will get credit for the recharge. Kroger tracks all the cards that the school sells and sends a statement once a month with the activity of each card and a profit check. |
