Mrs. Connie Whiteman

First Grade Teacher

Mrs. Whiteman was born the youngest of three, and raised in Terre Haute, IN. She has taught first grade at St. Joseph School for 11 years. Education: Went to 12 years of Catholic school. Received a B.S. in 1979 in Child Development and Family Life with a specialization in Sociology from Indiana State University. Yes, I went to school with Larry Bird, #33. In 1996, I received my Masters of Arts in Teaching as well as my Early Elementary Certificate from University of Louisville. Catechetical Credentials: Associate Catechist, and I am currently working on requirements for the Advanced Catechist. Awards: Who's Who Among American Teachers, Biltmore Who's Who of Executives and Professionals Family Information: I have been married for 28 years to Lynn Whiteman, also of Terre Haute, IN. We have a 26-year-old daughter, Lindsey, currently in medical school. Our 12 year old son, Jonathan, is a 6th grader here at St. Joe. Interests/hobbies: I enjoy taking my camera out for hikes, especially in the Appalachian Mountains and taking nature/wildlife photos, caving, rafting, and fossil hunting. At home, I enjoy crossword puzzles. Favorite sport: Spectator sport is football and participation sport is volleyball. Favorite animal: For a pet, I like cats. Fudd is our current cat. In the wild, I love the deer. Favorite Color: Yellow Favorite TV shows: Everybody Loves Raymond re-runs and Ghost Hunters on Sci-Fi. Favorite trip: This past summer, went to the island of St. Martin to visit our daughter at the University of the Caribbean Med. School. (She's not spoiled, is she)? On snow days: I am one of the kids. If there is enough snow, I like to go out and either shovel the drive or go sledding. Inside, I like hot cocoa and watching rented movies. Favorite childhood memory: Annual summer vacations at our secluded cabin in Ontario, Canada. What I like best about teaching: The children's pride in themselves when a new concept is finally grasped, and how they make me feel- like I will never grow old as long as long as I hang with them. I feel much honored to be a part of preparing them for the future. Favorite quote: "If God brings you to it, He'll help you through it."
