Mrs. Donna Beam Snider

Kindergarten Teacher

Mrs. Snider (Miss Donna as her students call her) was born in Louisville, Kentucky. She taught at a preschool/kindergarten called Kidstuff for 10 years and has been a teacher at SJS for 21 years. Education: She has a background in Early Childhood Education and a degree in Accounting. I am the proud graduate of both St. Joseph School and Bethlehem High School. Catechetical credentials: I have my Associates Degree in catechesis and continue to work on the next level of certification. I just finished a 10 week study on the book of Esther. Family information: I have been married for 35 years to my best friend, George. We have two children, Virginia and Mitchell. Virginia lives in Tampa, Florida. She not only had the nerve to move away from her mother--she actually moved on MY BIRTHDAY! Mitchell is my globetrotter. He has been to many wonderful places and even lived in Prague for about a year. Right now, he is living in Lexington, getting ready to start on his doctorate. Interests: I love to travel, read. Wendell Berry's book, "Jaber Crow," is one of my favorites. My poor little kindergarteners will tell you that I love to sing. I am taking voice lessons just for fun. Favorite sport/activity: Golf and gardening--mostly flowers, though I am going to have a small vegetable garden this year. Favorite animal: I have two dogs, Lucy a Weimaraner and Buck - a MUTT. Favorite color: I like them all at different times. Favorite TV show: Globe Trekker and Seinfeld re-runs. Favorite trip: A trip to Salzburg, Vienna, Prague and Budapest. Mitchell was living there at the time, so it made the trip extra special to get to see him and share so many sites. What you like to do on a snow day: Read, put photos in albums, do little things that I don't usually have time for. Someone who was a positive influence: I have had many great role models. My parents are a hard act to follow. Once when Gandhi was on a train, someone yelled out to him, "What is your message?"Gandhi answered that his life was his message. I know exactly what he meant. My parents didn't preach - but I learned a lot about the joy of a job well done and especially about charity by watching how they lived their lives. My husband, George, is a great moral compass for me. He can always be counted on to be fair. (He will probably roll his eyes at this - but it is true!). My Godfather was also a great role model. What you like best about teaching: It sounds simple - but, the children. I like the chance to be creative and to learn new things. Teachers get to work in a stimulating atmosphere. Favorite Quote: I can't remember when I first heard this one - probably way back in college. It helps me to remember that I can make a difference. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. INDEED, it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead
