Mrs. Margie Downs
Third Grade Teacher
I was born in Louisville, Kentucky. I have lived here in Bardstown all of my life. Education: I am a graduate of St. Joseph, Bethlehem, and U of L. My Master's Degree is from W.K.U. I have 5 years teaching experience, all here at St. Joseph. I stayed home for 16 years raising my family. Family information: I have been married to Jimmy Downs for 21 years on October 15th. We have four children: Violet, almost 18, Harry 15, Ellie almost 13, and Eliza 4 1/2. Two of my children are graduates of St. Joseph and attend Bethlehem. Ellie and Eliza are still here at St. Joe. Favorite sport: Swim and walk on my treadmill. Favorite color: Pink (My First Communion and wedding dresses were both pink!!) Favorite TV show: Jon and Kate Plus 8, reruns of the West Wing and Two and a Half Men. Favorite vacation: My favorite vacation is the same each year. Going to Charleston, S.C. with my family and my mother and father. It is nice for my children to spend time one on one with their grandparents (and for me, too!!). We go to the beach and ride waves and our favorite thing to do is to go to the market in Charleston. Favorite childhood memory: My favorite childhood memory is each Christmas morning we would go to the 7:00 a.m. Mass. On Christmas Eve, Santa Claus would bring our presents and then put a blanket in the doorway of our living room so we couldn't see what was in there. My Dad would always tie his ties in the mirror in the dining room which was attached to the living room. He would always peek into the living room and tease us by saying, "Oh, Margie!! You should see what Santa left you!!" All through Mass, I couldn't wait to get home and see what Santa left. Even to this day, my dad still teases us about what Santa has left for us!! What you like best about teaching: I like everything about teaching. The best part of the day: the smiles the students have at the beginning of the day. Positive influence: My mother, Violet Smith, and my mother-in-law are the two positive influences in my life. Each day I try to be like those two women. They have taught me about my faith and how to be a better Christian Catholic. Favorite Quote: "Let the children come to me." From the Gospel of John, and one from a college professor who said, "Those who can, Teach!"
