Mrs. Rae Phillips

Third Grade Teacher

I was born at Lenore in Nelson County and grew up in the Cedar Creek area on a small farm. Charles and I have been married for 50 years. We have two daughters and one son. Our oldest son is deceased. We are proud grandparents of three grandchildren. Education: I graduated from Bardstown Training High School at age 16; from Spalding University, I was awarded a B.S. in Education, and a Fifth Year Program (33 hours) from the University of Louisville. I have an advanced Catechetical Certificate. This will be 44 years of teaching and all of it has been at St. Joseph. Favorite animal: Rooster Family information: I have four sisters and we are very close with our parents. We always gather on Wednesdays and Saturdays at my parents' house. Four of five of us are teachers. Favorite color: Blue Favorite TV program: "Keeping up Appearances" Favorite trip: Two trips to Oakland and seeing the Golden Gate Bridge, Jack London Park, Napa Valley, Fisherman's Wharf, riding on a Ferry and a Bart. Favorite childhood memory: My dad teaching me to drive a big farm truck in the hay field at the age of 8. Greatest influence: My mom has always been my greatest influence in every way. She walked me to and from a two room schoolhouse that was about 2.5 miles from home. I would get so tired but she would remind me that each step took us closer to our destination. What I like about teaching: It is such a thrill to see the students' faces light up when new material clicks with them. It is always very thrilling when one of my former students walks through the door with their child that is going to be my new student. Favorite Quote: "The Lord is my Shepherd, there is nothing I lack." Psalm 23.
