St. Joseph Academic Team

There are many opportunities for students to participate in academic teams starting in fourth grade and continuing through eighth grade.

Elementary Level- (coach Mrs. Rebecca Medley)
Academic team competes in the KAAC hosted competitions. You can find more information at https://kaac.com/governors-cup/ if you are unfamiliar with the KAAC.
Students can compete in individual subject area assessments (math, social studies, science, language arts, and arts and humanities). 
Students interested in writing can compete in the Written Composition competition. 
They can also join the quick recall team. (Jeopardy-like format with buzzers)
They have a Future Problem Solving (FPS) team. Learn more here https://kaac.com/future-problem-solving/ This team is coached by Mrs. Emilee Dillard.
Students compete in a district level competition and move to the regional level if they are successful at district.

6th Grade- (coach Mrs. Mary Kate Evans)
Academic team competes in the KAAC hosted Sixth Grade Showcase competition. You can find more information at https://kaac.com/sixth-grade-showcase/ if you are unfamiliar with the KAAC.
Students can compete in individual subject area assessments (math, social studies, science, language arts, and arts and humanities).
Students interested in writing can compete in the Written Composition competition.

Students who excel will be invited to participate on the middle school team once the Sixth Grade Showcase is over.

Middle School (coach Mrs. Laurie Swink)

Students can compete in individual subject area assessments (math, social studies, science, language arts, and arts and humanities). 
Students interested in writing can compete in the Written Composition competition.

Students compete in a district level competition and move to the regional level if they are successful at district. If they advance at regional competition, they will move up to the state competition. 
In addition to the above events 7-8 team members may be selected to compete at the Knowledge Masters event with Hardin County Schools. In this event students compete against other area schools in a quiz based format at the HCEC_TV station.
